Jerry Shen, apparently in a meeting with analysts, said that ASUS will launch an Eee PC priced at US$200 in 2009. He also said that 7- and 8.9-inch Eee PCs will be phased out of the market to be replaced by 10-inch models. Although that sounds like it opens the possibility for a 10-inch Eee PC for $200 we’re not counting on it. Shen also noted that 70% of all Eee PCs are now loaded with XP (a latecomer to netbooks) and hard disk drives compared to 30% with Linux and SSDs. Microsoft, you win again.

Because it feels downright cold over here. While we can only hope and pray that this is the signal to finally close the book on this ridiculous saga, AT&T users all over the US are receiving text messages from AT&T confirming that free Starbucks WiFi (for iPhone owners) is on. Reportedly, the message indicates that their iPhone purchase gives them access to two hours of gratis use per day, though we’d go in with the lowest possible expectations in order to not be let down (again). Good luck, mettlesome ones.

Make no mistake, it’s been a hot minute since we’ve heard a good word from Hammer Storage, but the outfit is back and better than ever with an all new pocket-friendly hard drive. The morespace Portable weighs in at less than 5-ounces and houses a 2.5-inch HDD with capacities ranging from 160GB to 750GB. The USB 2.0 device can also be customized with your own protective skin, giving data thieves one less reason to pick off your drive versus one that’s not plastered with your ex-girlfriends face. Pricing is available “upon request,” and just so you know, the 160GB - 500GB units are available now, but the 750 gigger won’t be around ’til January of next year. Full release is after the break.

The general consensus was that Nikon’s D90 was a stellar DSLR, but the 720p movie mode was simply a so-so cherry on top. The gurus over at CamcorderInfo decided to take things one step further and actually write up an in-depth review on the movie mode alone. The long and short of it is this: the D90’s movie mode simply can’t produce the same results as a dedicated HD camcorder, and while it was “often able to produce impressive results (especially in moderately low light),” the unfortunate “wobble effect” really put a damper on things. In essence, the aforementioned problem causes objects to look like Jell-o when the user pans quickly from left to right, and the only real way to avoid it is to utilize a tripod or slow down your pans — neither of which are terribly convenient. Critics did find quite a bit to praise, and they certainly appreciated the inclusion in an otherwise amazing camera, but it’s still far from being ideal in all scenarios.
The CEO of Sprint casually proclaimed that he didn’t feel Android (in its current form) was “good enough to put the Sprint brand on.” In all fairness, Sprint has shown a friendly side to Google in the past
